9-year-old boy tries to drive to school and leads Oroville California Highway Patrol in pursuit

OROVILLE, California.- A California police officer got a shocking surprise when the car he was chasing stopped.

Behind the wheel? A nine year old boy on his way to school.

“It was surprise, several other officers showed up too and it was one of those ‘no one really believed it’ things. So several other officers showed up on the scene only to see that, in fact, it was a 9-year-old driving the vehicle,” said Officer Terry Dunn of the Oroville, California, Highway Patrol.

Officer Dunn noticed the car stop in the middle of the intersection of Fourth and Grand. He then announced over the public address system for the car to move, to which the boy turned onto Fourth Street, through this intersection and then through the parking lot of the Valero gas station where I am standing. Now, after passing through the gas station, he headed to the dirt parking lot there where he then backed into Officer Dunn’s patrol car.

“A few seconds later, I noticed a small head inside, something unusual. I got out of my patrol car, approached it, and as I got closer, I could see a boy who turned out to be a 9-year-old boy sticking his head out and saying: ‘Sorry, I was trying to get to school,'” Dunn said.

The boy’s school was right next door.

“At that point, we’re trying to identify if that was the school he was actually going to. We contacted the principal, we contacted the parents and everyone showed up at the scene,” Dunn said.

“We hope that many other people take this seriously and learn from it. Therefore, I hope that this does not happen again in the future. Maybe talk to your children about the dangers of driving a vehicle and what could happen.” , Dunn. saying.

Officer Dunn says the boy had to go to school after the whole situation.
