Aboul Gheit stresses the necessity of implementing the Security Council’s ceasefire resolution and the entry of aid into Gaza

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received today, Thursday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, Lord Tariq Ahmed, British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting focused on the war. Aggression against Gaza, where Aboul Gheit expressed his appreciation for Britain’s vote in favor of the recent Security Council resolution regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the necessity of implementing this resolution on the ground to completely stop the Israeli military operation, and for the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian disaster and famine. Which is staring at the population.

 

Aboul Gheit also stressed the importance of concerted diplomatic efforts after stopping the military operation to build on the Security Council resolution to achieve stability and provide a political horizon for the emergence of the Palestinian state, stressing that Expanding global recognition of the state is the right way to start the settlement process on a correct basis, calling on Britain to take the decision to recognize the Palestinian state as a step in the right direction in order to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution.

 

Rushdi said that the British minister agreed with the Secretary-General on the importance of implementing the Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire, as well as on the necessity of bringing in aid via land routes, which cannot be compensated by sea or air.

 

The spokesman confirmed that both the Secretary-General of the League and the British Minister discussed at length the future of the Gaza Strip within the broader framework of implementing the two-state solution, where Aboul Gheit stressed that the absence of a political horizon for the Palestinians is sufficient to thwart any positive efforts for reconstruction or restoration of calm. Stressing that the Palestinian issue is primarily political.

 

On the other hand, the two parties discussed the latest developments in the situation in Libya, where the British Minister of State appreciated the vital role of the Arab League in Libya as a partner. Important and supportive of stability in the country, expressing his appreciation for the meeting held recently under the umbrella of the Arab League for the Libyan parties to bring views closer and resolve controversial points.
