President Abbas stresses the need for the State of Palestine to assume its duties in Gaza

President Mahmoud Abbas stressed the need for the international community to intervene in order to end the human suffering in the Gaza Strip, stop the Israeli war, and allow the State of Palestine to assume its duties in Gaza as it does in the West Bank.

In a phone call with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, on Friday, the President stressed the need for the international community to intervene to establish mechanisms to bring humanitarian, relief and medical aid into the entire Gaza Strip and prevent the displacement of Palestinians. He also renewed his emphasis on the necessity of a speedy, complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, stopping all unilateral actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the State of Palestine assuming its duties in Gaza as it does in the West Bank, the State of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations, and further recognition by states of the State of Palestine. During the phone call, Abbas briefed his Bulgarian counterpart on the latest developments in the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, and the need to quickly stop the war of genocide to which the people are being subjected. For his part, the Bulgarian President expressed his hope that the war will end, that the Palestinian people will gain their freedom and independence, and that all the peoples of the region will enjoy peace and independence. Earlier, President Abbas sent letters to a number of presidents, prime ministers, organizations and unions in which he affirmed his rejection of the principles of the day after the war on Gaza announced by Benjamin Netanyahu. He warned “of the danger of what was stated in Netanyahu’s announcement, in which he challenges international positions and efforts made for a ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and an increase in the amounts of humanitarian food and medical aid and the basic needs of the people of Gaza who are living in tragic conditions under the siege and the absence of all basic facilities after the destruction.” The Israeli army for infrastructure, including hospitals and schools.
