The Somali Parliament approves by majority the amendment to the Constitution

Today, the Somali Parliament approved, by a majority, the amendment to the country’s constitution after discussions that took ‏several sessions.‏

The Speaker of the Somali People’s Assembly, Sheikh Adam Mohamed Nur, stated, according to the Somali News Agency, that‏&rlm 254 deputies out of 275 deputies, the total members of Parliament in both chambers, voted in favor of amending the constitution.‏

The agency indicated that among the most important provisions that were amended in the constitution are those that stipulate that a president be elected. The Republic is governed by the people, who in turn appoint and dismiss the Prime Minister.
