Walters future sealed as new Broncos deal revealed

Kevin Walters has committed to the Broncos for a further season, with the head coach and club legend signing a new deal until the end of 2026.

According to 9News reporter Ben Dobbin, Brisbane have now opted to extend Walters’ contract by a further season, while his remaining two years have been upgraded.

The 56-year-old took over the job from Anthony Seibold three years ago and has taken the Broncos from a wooden spoon outfit to a genuine title contender.

Last season, the Broncos came within a whisker of their first NRL premiership since 2006, before a masterclass from Nathan Cleary broke the hearts of the side.

In recent months, Walters has overseen a number of key player extensions at Red Hill, with five-eighth Ezra Mam re-signing with the Broncos and reports circling that superstar fullback Reece Walsh is on the verge of a new deal.

Walters played 242 games for the Broncos during his career, winning four premierships.

After retiring from on-field duties, the Rockampton product would move into coaching and found success with the Maroons at State of Origin level, leading the side to series victories in 2016 and 2017.

The club is yet to formally confirm the news of Walters’ contract, with an announcement from the Broncos expected this week.
